What Is An Automatic Double Door Opener?

What Is An Automatic Double Door Opener? | Sales: [email protected]

An automatic double door opener or dual automatic door operator is a type of electric door opener designed to open a pair of doors simultaneously. In this article we explain everything you need to know about automatic double door openers.

Automates Two Doors

As you can guess from the name, automatic double doors are designed to open two doors. Most commercial entrance doors are double storefront glass doors. To automate both doors so that they both swing open an automatic double door opener is used. The automatic double door opener is essentially two single door openers inside of one continuous aluminum header enclosure. The controller inside of the automatic door opener is sometimes a special dual controller used to communicated between both motor/gearboxes, or a two single controllers connected by a sync cable to communicate with one another.

Automatic Double Door Opener Sizes

Automatic double door openers are specifically manufactured to fit certain door pair sizes. Because the header enclosure spans the entire width of the door pair, automatic double door openers must be made specifically for door pair size. For instance an automatic double door opener for a 72" wide door pair (two 36" doors) will use a header enclosure that is 75" long. Whereas an automatic double door opener for a 96" wide door pair (two 48" doors) will use a header enclosure that is 99" long.

How Does An Automatic Double Door Opener Work

An automatic double door opener works exactly like a single automatic door opener. When a handicap button is activated, the dual automatic door control sends voltage to both left and right operator motors, allowing both doors to swing open at the same time. After a specific time delay, both doors close gently.

How Many Activation Switches Should Be Used On A Double Door Opener

Even though both doors are now automated, it is still part of one entry. So two handicap buttons, one on the outside of the door pair, and one on the inside of the door pair is sufficient. Always keep in mind both doors can now swing, so be sure that the handicap buttons are not mounted in the swing path of the door where someone can get hurt.
