How Much Does It Cost To Install A Concealed Closer?

A concealed door closer, often referred to as an OHC, or overhead concealed closer, is generally found on commercial glass doors such as retail entrance doors, etc. One of the most common questions is how much does this cost?

Well to answer it bluntly, it could easily cost anywhere from $900 on the cheap side to $1500+ on the more expensive side. The average cost for the repair is right around $1000 to $1200. Now let's break it down as to why.

Overhead concealed door closers are not cheap closing devices. Most commercial glass doors will have very expensive models of concealed closers on their doors. However, just because it was expensive doesn't necessarily mean it will last. Chances are if they are calling you out for a repair, the original closer body has failed and is leaking oil. Meaning it will need to replaced. Expensive overhead concealed closers can cost the service company $450 to $750 easily. Service companies will then need to mark that price up atleast 50%, and then finally you are looking at travel time to the job site and the hourly cost for the service company's labor. All in all this can be a very expensive job for a building owner, if your commercial door has broken down.

Is there A Less Costly Alternative?

Yes! Automatic Door and Hardware has designed and manufactured it's own model of concealed closers, and we call it the Hercules concealed closer. It is designed with the same exact footprint as expensive name brand models of concealed closers, will last just as long if not longer, and includes extra needed components such as the top arm and bottom pivot. If you are a building owner this can save you alot of money by simply choosing our product or even installing it yourself. Please refer to our article "How To Replace Any Overhead Concealed Door Closer". If your a service repair company, choosing our concealed closers will save you both time and money, since you will only have to stock one type of concealed closer on your repair van.
