Replacing A Besam Automatic Door Opener
Besam Assa Abloy manufactures many different models of automatic door openers including the Swingmaster 300 Series, Swingmaster 400 Series, Swingmaster MP Series, Swingmaster 900 Series, SW100, and SW200i. Many of these automatic door openers can be in hospitals, office buildings, and other commercial and institutional buildings. But what if you want to replace your Besam automatic door opener? Maybe you are having trouble with adjusting them or repairing them? In this article we explain how to replace any Besam automatic door opener.
Identify Your Besam Automatic Door Arm Type
Besam automatic door openers are generally surface mounted to the top of the door frame. The Besam automatic door opener either pushes the door open with an outswing type arm, or it pulls the door open using an inswing arm with door mounted track. Identify what type of arm your Besam automatic door opener uses, as we will match the arm type and hand with the new Commander automatic door opener.
Identify If The Besam Activation Switches Are Wireless
Most Horton automatic door installations use
wireless handicap buttons with a 9 volt battery and
transmitter. Open the handicap button to check if they are wireless (have a transmitter) or hardwired (no transmitter). The handicap face plate can be removed by loosening the concealed allen screws, or by removing the screw located at the bottom of the mounting box.
Remove Power
Carefully remove the header cover on the Horton automatic door opener by removing all of the screws located at the bottom of the header. Be sure to hold on to the cover as you do this, so that it does not fall. Next identify the main power and disconnect it from the controller. If the handicap buttons were wireless, then there should be a
receiver module. Disconnect the receiver module. If the handicap buttons were hardwired then remove the switch wires from the Horton C4190 controller.
Remove Horton Door Opener
Remove the Horton door arm from the gearbox and door. Then remove the controller, motor/gearbox, etc. Once all Horton components are removed, then remove the header enclosure.
Install New Automatic Door Opener
The next step is to install the
Commander automatic door operator. Be sure to use the same arm type (outswing or inswing) and handing that the Horton automatic door opener was. The Commander automatic door opener is non-handed and can be used in any configuration, however the correct arm (outswing or inswing) must be noted at the time of purchase.
It's worth noting that the Commander automatic door opener is a heavy duty unit with all certifications so that it can be installed in any commercial building. It is UL Listed, fire rated, and manufactured in the USA. No matter your door type:
hollow metal,
commercial steel,
commercial glass, or wood, the Commander automatic door opener is designed for easy installation. Be sure to reconnect the receiver module or handicap button switches to the Commander automatic door opener.
